In this tutorial we will go deeper than usual and will cover the "getbestblockhash" command in the Maria Core wallet console, that provides the hash of the latest block on the $Maria coin blockchain.

What Does the Command Do?

"getbestblockhash" retrieves the cryptographic hash of the most recent block added to the $Maria coin blockchain.
A hash function is a mathematical operation that converts data of any size into a fixed-size alphanumeric string.
In blockchain technology, the hash of a block serves as a unique identifier for that block and plays a crucial role in ensuring data integrity.

Using the Command:

1. Launch the Maria Core wallet.

2. Open the debug console.
  • Windows/Linux: Go to Help > Debug window (or press Ctrl+D).
  • Mac: Go to Debug > Console window.

3. Type the following command and press Enter:
Code:
getbestblockhash

Understanding the Output:

The console will display a long alphanumeric string. This is the hash of the latest block on the Maria coin blockchain.

Example Output:
Code:
0000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000001

Uses of the Block Hash:

While the block hash itself might not be readily understandable to the average user, it has several important applications:
  • Blockchain Verification: You can use the block hash obtained from getbestblockhash to verify the legitimacy of a specific block by exploring blockchain explorers online. These websites allow you to enter the block hash and see details about the corresponding block.
  • Third-party Integrations: Some applications or services might require the block hash to interact with the Maria coin network.

Additional Notes:
Code:
The block hash constantly changes as new blocks are added to the blockchain.
It's recommended to use block explorers instead of the raw block hash for most users unless you're comfortable with blockchain technology.
