This tutorial will explain using the "getstakingstatus" Command in Maria Core Wallet Console.

The "getstakingstatus" command in the Maria Core wallet console provides valuable information about the staking functionality of your wallet.

What Does the Command Do?

"getstakingstatus" offers a snapshot of your wallet's staking status, including:
  • Whether staking is currently enabled or disabled.
  • If enabled, the wallet's current staking mode (e.g., "Staking Active" or "Staking Not Active").
  • The number of active staking coins in your wallet.
  • Potential reasons why staking might be inactive (if applicable).

Using the Command:

1. Launch the Maria Core wallet.

2. Open the debug console.
  • Windows/Linux: Go to Help > Debug window (or press Ctrl+D).
  • Mac: Go to Debug > Console window.

3. Type the following command and press Enter:

Code:
getstakingstatus

Example Output (screenshot attached):
Code:
{
  "staking_status": true,
  "staking_enabled": true,
  "coldstaking_enabled": true,
  "haveconnections": true,
  "mnsync": true,
  "walletunlocked": true,
  "stakeablecoins": 5075,
  "stakingbalance": 58850.26448670,
  "stakesplitthreshold": 5000.00000000,
  "lastattempt_age": 13,
  "lastattempt_depth": 0,
  "lastattempt_hash": "38e62fa16b807fcioregdsg4941g5dsgd461gds3cde91a9b254269435f046b0c5",
  "lastattempt_coins": 5075,
  "lastattempt_tries": 5075
}

-----

Understanding the Output:

The output will display information in a key-value format. Here's a breakdown of what the basic (not full list) key lines indicate:

"staking_status": Indicates whether staking is currently active (true) or inactive (false). Where:
  • true (Staking Active): Your wallet is actively participating in staking.
  • false (Staking Not Active): Staking is disabled or encountering issues. Reasons might be specified in other outputs.

"hasconnections": A boolean indicating whether the wallet is connected to the network. Options: "true" or "false"
"stakeablecoins": Indicates if there are coins that can be staked.
"stakeablebalance": Shows the balance of the coins that can be staked.

"coldstaking_enabled": indicates whether cold staking is enabled in your Maria Core wallet. Cold staking allows users to stake their Maria coins securely while keeping them in a cold (offline) wallet, providing enhanced security.
"haveconnections": Indicates if the wallet has network connections (true or false).
"mnsync": Shows whether the masternode synchronization is complete (true or false).
"walletunlocked": Indicates if the wallet is unlocked (true or false).
"stakeablecoins": Indicates if there are coins in the wallet that can be staked (true or false).
"stakingbalance": Shows the total balance of coins available for staking.
"stakingsplitthreshold": The balance threshold at which staked outputs are split to optimize staking efficiency.
"lastattempt_age": The age in seconds since the last staking attempt.
"lastattempt_depth": The depth (number of confirmations) of the block containing the last staking attempt.
"lastattempt_hash": The hash of the block where the last staking attempt was made.
"lastattempt_coins": Indicates the number of coins that were utilized in the most recent staking attempt. This value shows how many of your eligible coins participated in trying to create a staking block during the last attempt.

"lastattempt_tries": Represents the number of individual attempts made during the last staking effort. Each try is an attempt by the wallet to find a valid proof-of-stake solution using the specified coins.

Troubleshooting Inactivity:

If the output indicates inactive staking, check the following:
  • Ensure the "wallet" value is true. If it's false, staking is disabled in your wallet settings.
  • Look for error messages under the "errors" key. These might provide specific reasons for the inactivity.
  • Verify your wallet is synchronized with the blockchain ("blockchain": true).
  • Ensure you have enough mature (sufficiently aged) coins in your wallet to meet staking requirements.

For further troubleshooting or in-depth information about staking in Maria coin, refer to the Maria coin documentation or open a support thread here, at Maria.Zone forum.

Enjoy! Helmuts

Thank you for the quick write-up, Helmuts.

Once I activate cold-staking, can I take the core wallet offline(let's say for 10 days), and then after 10 days when I sync my wallet again, will I get my staking rewards for those 10 days?

In short, what I am asking is if I can still earn my staking rewards without having to run the wallet 24x7 once cold staking is activated.

Thanks in advance.

Hi [member=53]Kutti[/member], absolutely! That's one of the key benefits of Maria cold staking.

And, yes, when using Maria cold staking and your main wallet is offline, you'll receive your staking rewards in a batch, not regularly, once your wallet resyncs with the network.

For a person who doesn't understand what we are talking about (and it is fine) > here's how it works:
  • Hot wallet vs Cold wallet: In traditional (hot) staking, you need the wallet containing your coins to be online 24/7 to participate in staking and receive rewards.
  • Cold staking delegation: With cold staking, you delegate your staking rights to a separate online node (called a staker or delegate) while keeping your coins offline in a separate wallet.

Benefits of Offline with Cold Staking:
  • Security: Your coins remain secure in your offline wallet, reducing the risk of online attacks on the hot wallet.
  • Convenience: You don't need to keep your main wallet software running 24/7, saving on electricity and wear-and-tear.
  • Staking Rewards: As long as the online staking node (delegate) you choose remains operational, you will continue to earn staking rewards even with your offline wallet.

Important Notes:
  • Choosing a Staker: Select a reputable and reliable staker with a good uptime record to ensure your staking rewards continue uninterrupted.
  • Fees: Some stakers might charge a small fee for their service, deducted from your staking rewards. Even though you are paying a small fee > cold staking services for many are the very best solution (especially, if your PC isn't online 24/7)

In summary:
With Maria cold staking activated, you can take your core wallet offline for 10 days (or even longer) and still receive staking rewards for those days, provided the online staking node you delegated to remains operational.

Does this help?

Best wishes, Helmuts

Thank you for the detailed answer, Helmuts.

Is there a guide on how one can delegate staking to another hot wallet and how to run a delegator wallet(perhaps on a vps)?

[member=1]Helmuts[/member], did you get a chance to check this thread?

Thanks!

Not sure where is [member=1]Helmuts[/member] but I think that since Maria is based on Pivx code, the following guide should work.

https://pivx.org/news/a-pivx-cold-staking-how-to

I will give it a try.

Good morning Kutti, yes, that tutorial should work! I know that there are $Maria users who do "cold staking", I don't.

Let me know how it goes.

Best wishes,
Helmuts

Thank you for your response. Yeah that works.

The only issue with cold staking is that I need to combine multiple small txn into one single txn quite frequently. The "autocombine rewards" function doesn't seems to work unless I am doing something stupid.

Thanks

Good morning, I am running an experiment of cold staking as well :) for the sake of an experiment.

about the autocombine:
.. if your wallet "stake split threshold" is 5000

Code:
setautocombinethreshold true 5000

yes, it is interesting to see if 'dust' and rewards will get autocombined

So I need to execute "setautocombinethreshold true 5000" on the controller wallet? Do I need to keep the controller wallet open and unlocked for the rewards to autocombine?

Thanks,

Thanks,

Hi

No, you do not necessarily need to keep the controller wallet open and unlocked for the rewards to autocombine with the "setautocombinethreshold true 5000" command.

Here's how it works:

  • The "setautocombinethreshold true 5000" command instructs your Maria wallet to automatically combine your unspent transaction outputs (UTXOs) whenever the total amount exceeds 5000. This helps optimize your wallet's efficiency and reduce transaction fees.
  • Combining UTXOs happens within the wallet itself, and the controller wallet doesn't need to be actively running or unlocked for this process to occur.

However, there are a few things to keep in mind:

  • While the wallet itself can combine UTXOs, it still needs to be synced with the PivX network to receive new transactions and rewards. So, it's recommended to keep your wallet software running at least in the background.
  • If you're using an encrypted wallet, you will need to enter your wallet passphrase when the wallet needs to spend funds, even for autocombining. But you won't need to keep the wallet unlocked continuously.

For more information on UTXO combining and wallet functionality in Maria wallet, you can refer to the official PivX documentation. With time we will have more information like this - currently we partly need to rely on PivXs docs.
